Gear VR Usage Survey: Only 10% of users use it regularly

Samsung entered the mobile VR field in 2014 and released the fourth-generation Gear VR in 2017. The price is only US$99. Although the fourth-generation Gear VR headset has been on the market for over a year, Samsung did not make a new version of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ at the beginning of the year, which also means that the fourth-generation Gear VR is fully compatible with Samsung's new phone.

At present, Gear VR is one of the most popular mobile VR headsets. A reason is that Samsung will generally give users Gear VR equipment for free. Each pre-ordered Samsung phone will receive a headset. In addition, Samsung will also provide customers with Gear VR for free during promotional activities.

Recently, Sammobile, a technology website, conducted a survey on the use of the Gear VR. The survey question was "Are you still using the Gear VR?" The following are the voting conditions for this survey:

According to the survey, a total of 1,058 people took part in vote, of which 607 (57%) chose "Not at all"; 347 (33%) chose "Not to use often, once a month"; The number of users "Every other day" is only 104 (10%).

From the results, it can be seen that Gear VR does not seem to be very popular with users. There are many reasons for this, for example, many of Gear VR's software and games are technical demonstrations but not consumer products. At the same time, Samsung itself admitted that this is a product that has not positioned as a mainstream market product.

In addition, Gear VR can not completely replace other electronic products, especially smart phones. Users can neither make phone calls nor send text messages or e-mails after wearing their head phones. They can only see some relevant information on the screen. When there is an incoming call, the user either taps the touch pad to end the call or takes the phone down to answer the call.

Besides, like other eyeglasses, Gear VR has low resolution and image quality. The lack of content in glasses boxes has also been criticized.

The public needs to allow users to create and manage VR/AR projects simply and intuitively without leaving home. Just like today we can upload photos, videos or 3D graphics on various social media. The ecosystem is built on a unique technology platform that can automatically g...

AI technology: can know your nationality by checking your handwriting

The handwriting will reveal identity information, but now AI technology goes a step further, and the handwriting can expose nationality. Researchers have tried to read handwriting through AI to get information about the person's emotions, gender, age, etc. This time their focus has expanded from individual to nationality. The 100 volunteers were from Malaysia, Iran, China, India, and Bangladesh. Researchers asked them to write the same English, and then use a linear distribution (COLD) recognition tool to analyze the shape distribution characteristics of the font, such as straightness, Bending and so on. The results showed that even if the volunteers with the same nationality were written in the country, the handwriting showed a distinct "nationality" character. This is the difference in writing habits made by words. Chinese people who are accustomed to straight strokes of Chinese characters, even if they write Roman letters, will not change the straight-line wr...
