Baidu China cooperates with Ford to create an AI car


Recently, Baidu China signed a contract with Ford to further break into the automBaidu cooperates with Ford China to create an AI car togetherotive industry. The cooperation between the two companies will be dedicated to enhancing the "intelligence" of China's driving experience.


This is not the first time that the two companies have collaborated. It was more famous that they used Velodyne, a startup company that manufactures Light Detection And Ranging sensors, to jointly invest 150 million U.S. dollars (about 9,000 million U.S. dollars). In the cooperation they launched cars equipped with technologies such as car networking, artificial intelligence and digital marketing.

They will launch a new vehicle-mounted system based on the Baidu DuerOS AI platform. It is also part of Baidu's Apollo platform (car Android) and Ford is also one of the founders of the platform. Some of the noteworthy features of the onboard DuerOS system include Speech recognition, Natural Language Understanding (NLU) and image recognition.


The two companies will also create "a joint car networking lab to study new technologies in the Chinese automotive industry and the mobile industry." The lab will focus on cloud-based services, including AI technology, and the future may be combined with Ford technology called "Transportation Cloud Platform" (TMC).
