Chinese schools use AI technology to score essays

It is said that some schools in China are quietly testing a powerful machine that uses artificial intelligence to give score to student essays.

With the strong support of the government, artificial intelligence technology is rapidly developing in China. This technology is being widely used in daily life. It is designed to understand the overall logic and meaning of the text and to make reasonable, human-like judgments about the overall quality of the article. Then grades the articles and proposes improvements in terms of writing style, structure and subject matter. The technology that is being applied in about 60,000 schools is expected to be able to carry out more in-depth "thinking" rather than merely having a spell check function. For example, if certain paragraphs start to deviate from the subject, the computer will mark it.

According to the report, parents of most schools participating in the project did not receive notice. Only authorized staff had the authority to enter the system terminal, and the score results were kept strictly confidential.

The technology will help reduce the time teachers spend on composition scoring and help them avoid scoring inconsistencies caused by distracted or unconscious biases. It can also help more students, especially those in remote areas with limited resources, to improve their writing skills more quickly. This machine is similar to an electronic scorer, an automated system used by the U.S. Educational Testing Service Center to grade students writing for graduate students. But unlike electronic scorers, this machine can read both Chinese and English.

Scientists insist that the technology aims to help rather than replace human teachers. Wangjing, a teacher in the High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China, said: "We (attesting) attitude is very cautious. The school's affairs are attributable to the campus. Test results will not be announced to the public"

Most schools interviewed gave similar evaluations. The schools said that this artificial intelligence scoring machine cannot be perfect. The teachers cited a lot of very good articles but they were low scored cases.

Currently, this machine is only used to score internal exams. And no school plans to use this technology to score essays in tests that will affect students' formal academic records.

Wangjing said: "This technology is still in its early stages."

AI technology: can know your nationality by checking your handwriting

The handwriting will reveal identity information, but now AI technology goes a step further, and the handwriting can expose nationality. Researchers have tried to read handwriting through AI to get information about the person's emotions, gender, age, etc. This time their focus has expanded from individual to nationality. The 100 volunteers were from Malaysia, Iran, China, India, and Bangladesh. Researchers asked them to write the same English, and then use a linear distribution (COLD) recognition tool to analyze the shape distribution characteristics of the font, such as straightness, Bending and so on. The results showed that even if the volunteers with the same nationality were written in the country, the handwriting showed a distinct "nationality" character. This is the difference in writing habits made by words. Chinese people who are accustomed to straight strokes of Chinese characters, even if they write Roman letters, will not change the straight-line wr...

Like blockchain, AR is one of the most breakthrough technologies in 2018

Augmented reality, as well as blockchain technology, is one of the most breaking technologies in 2018. Major IT giants such as Apple, Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Snapchat have been contending for leadership in the past few years. The AR-related project investment has exceeded 3 billion U.S. dollars last year. And by 2021, the market is expected to grow to 83 billion U.S. dollars. By the end of 2018, at least 1 billion smartphone users will use augmented reality applications. The VR/AR technology needs to be popular. The public needs to allow users to create and manage VR/AR projects simply and intuitively without leaving home. Just like today we can upload photos, videos or 3D graphics on various social media. As the blockchain, the main task of the Arcona blockchain ecosystem is to provide millions of users with simple and affordable tools for launching their own AR projects around the world. The ecosystem is built on a unique technology platform that can automatically g...
