Are you awake or drunk when you call a car? In the future, Uber's artificial intelligence can make it clear. The CNN reported that Uber may want to use artificial intelligence to identify drunk passengers, according to a recent US patent application record.
The patent Uber applied for was titled "Predicting User Status with Machine Learning," submitted by Uber's trust and security team in December 2016.
In the patent description, Uber stated that they develop a "coordination system" that will identify abnormal behavior based on how users use the Uber App. For example, the user's typing speed, the frequency of typos appear, the accuracy of the click button, the user's walking speed, and the time and place of the car.
Suppose you are in the bar street area at 1 o'clock in the morning at the weekend and you enter the destination slowly and repeatedly. It's completely different from the normal working day. The system will then determine that you are not on awake situation.
When "unusual behavior" is identified, the system will adjust Uber's services accordingly. For example, a driver who has been trained and has relevant experience will be arranged for the user to inform him of the status of the passenger in advance.
In addition, it is also possible to change the place of getting on and off to a place where the light is sufficient, and to turn off the carpool function to ensure safety.
CNN believes Uber is likely to use this patent to identify drunken passengers. This may be due to Uber's optimisation of driver orders. After all, it is not a pleasant experience to deal with alcoholic drunkards, spit a car, and endure odor and clear up vomit.
Uber stated in the patent description that he hopes to use this system to reduce unpleasant experiences such as quarrels or physical conflicts.
However, the "side effects" brought about by this system are also questionable. When there is a "pre-notice" for drunk passengers, the user may be frequently cancelled by the disgusting driver. Some netizens also believe that this feature will encourage drivers to take advantage of arbitrary charges.
In CNN's view, artificial intelligence may be used by drivers who are unpredictable. This is the most important concern. According to survey data, at least 103 Uber drivers in the United States have been charged with sexual assaults against passengers in the past four years. Many of these victims were drunk while driving. The malicious driver can use this function to find a "good" passenger.
Temporarily this patent has not yet been put into use. Uber did not respond to this.
